Elevator to hidden sub-basement in Building 20 rubble

Location: pile of rubble where building 20 once stood
Date: April 6, 1999
Perpetrators: unknown

Building 20 was built during WWII as a ``temporary building''. Despite its temporary stature, the building lasted well into the 1990s when it was removed to make way for the new Stata Center complex to house MIT's computer science research on the main campus.

A year before this hack, hackers marked the building as deactivated.

Once the building was cleared away, hackers helpd the Institute ``find'' this, once hidden, elevator shaft in the rubble. It must have led to some secret and long forgotten laboratories in the sub-basement... (one that had never shown up on any public Institute maps?)

The Tech has a better picture.
