IAP is MIT's Independent Activities Period. Traditionally, the month of January has been designated IAP for unstructured learning. Students and faculty take the time to do research, learn, and explore without the regular grind of classes. At the time of this hack, there were some grumblings in the administration that, perhaps, IAP time should be reclaimed for coursework and structured classes.
