Banners for Bill Gates's Visit

Location: W20 and 77 Mass. Ave.
Date: 5/29/96
Perpetrators: unknown and The Order of Random Knights (O.R.K.)

Bill Gates, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft Corp., visited MIT this term to share his insights into the future of computing with the 'Tute. The visit was accompanied by much pomp, schmoozing, and two banner hacks.

A banner was placed on the MIT Student Center, right across the oval from Kresge Auditorium where Gates was lecturing, which read: "MIT doesn't do Windows."

O.R.K. placed second banner just across the road at the main Institute entrance (77 Massachusetts Avenue) which lampooned the Windows95 start button. This button, however, was labelled "Crash."
