In an art project entitled "The Garden in the Machine," 60-75,0000 stalks of wheat were "planted" in Lobby 7, turning it into a wheat field. Tech Talk describes the project in Lobby 7 becomes 'field of dreams' and Real-Life 'Field of Dreams' to Appear in MIT Main Lobby.
Hackers decided that any Wheat Field required the oversight of a scarecrow, and graciously provided one.
They also decided that the pastoral setting would not be complete without a cow -- after all, 'If at All Possible, Involve a Cow'.
